Lightweight, compact design, better power to weight ratio.Suzuki's DF is the lightest four-stroke in the —hp range, and despite not having variable valve timing or even the variable air induction of its Honda BF competition, I reckon it outperforms all the four-strokes in this power range that I've tested, particularly above revs. The holeshot acceleration is outstanding for a 2.
As with the DF, the DF has a two-stage gear reduction achieved by having an offset driveshaft with a reduction from the crankshaft and a further reduction in the gearcase. This results in the deepest overall gear reduction in its power range without resorting to a bigger gearcase torpedo diameter which would increase hydrodynamic drag. The DF also has the same self-adjusting camshaft drive chain but to handle the 22 per cent greater output from only five per cent bigger piston displacement a water-cooled engine oil cooler is fitted.
However, because of its relatively small piston displacement the DF needs careful propping to achieve its full potential and under normal operating loads it should reach around revs at WOT. But unlike some of its competition, it returns excellent performance with Suzuki alloy props, dramatically reducing the prop replacement price and saving the clutch dogs from damage when fishing snag-infested waterways.
Another advantage of the DF over some of its competition is its light weight - 15 per cent less than another leading brand - which makes a big difference on smaller hulls. Mounted on a 5. L fndtn-panel2 Was this engine new fromor newer than that? I don't find much info on Wikipedia on it I have noticed that the weight of the HP enine is a few kilos lighter than the HP one. Thats strange Tags: df atl. They are from the same engine "family", and share the same engine block and cc capacity.
The uses some different manifold and other components made from lightweight materials that account for the lighter weight. Plus of course a different engine mapping from the ECU to produce the extra horsepower. It is a pretty common thing for manufacturers to have the same basic engine tuned and featured a little differently to produce a range of horsepowers.
Get the if ypu have the choice. It never hurts to have some more power. At cruise revs it will use the same amount of fuel as the Both are very nice motors. The 03 is still running and it's been run hard. I don't know anything about Yamahas. I have an 06 Johnson 4 stroke, same motor as Suzuki build in same plant I am told. Like the motor, hrs and only minor issues. I have had no experience with Yamaha, tons of best and worst stories. Who to believe? I have twin Yammi's, in my Grady. Just broke hours in them without any serious issues.

Minor stuff like thermostats, implellars, plugs, other than that they have been amazing engines I also have two sets of Suzuki's, one set has hours, other has a Same with these engines, nothing major to report besides minor maintenance In my decision on engines it would and did depend on your local dealer for any maintenance or work you may need done on it.

My son with the Suzuki would rather have a Yamaha for the noise factor alone. They both have been around for a while and have solid reputations. RayvonFeb 28, I just bought the Suzuki and had the same issue deciding. So i now have 6 yr warranty. Can't say about noise as i had a 2 stroke so anything 4 stroke is quiet. Buddies have Yamaha's and they are a great motors and thats what i wanted but it came down to cash and warranty.

Double check that, because I know engines from years ago there was a big difference in '10 hp' between a Yam and a Zuk DFTrailer Boats used Wellcraft's Sportsman as a test bed for the four-stroke Suzuki outboard engine.
